GOOD Magazine Early Career Art Prize

The GOOD Magazine Early Career Art Prize celebrates the incredible work being made by early career artists across Queensland.

Each year, GOOD Magazine will curate a finalist exhibition showcasing a selection of emerging voices working across contemporary visual art. An independent guest judge will then select the prize winners.

Founded by artists, for artists, the prize exists to create meaningful opportunities for those at the beginning of their careers. We believe great work deserves thoughtful presentation, genuine support and a platform to be seen.

Whether you're self-taught, university-trained or forging your own path, we'd love to see your work.

Eligibility

An art prize for early career artists living in Queensland. We define an early career artist as someone who has been engaged in professional artistic practice for less than 10 years. Formal arts education is not required to apply.

Theme

The 2026 prize has a prompt of 'heat'. 

Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly. Heat may be understood as physical temperature, climate, the Australian summer, fire, politics, passion, desire, intimacy, labour, anger, transformation, conflict, memory or any other contemporary interpretation relevant to the artist's practice.

The judges welcome experimental, thoughtful and original responses to the theme.
